Where in the World (340)

The minarets and the Islamic architecture of the building in the distorted photograph from last week certainly identified the building as a mosque. Most people identified it correctly as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, however, due to the incorporation of elements of Mughal Islamic architecture it was identified incorrectly, by some, as being in the city of Agra. It is in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi

Congratulations to Stu (@Txiki_Tales), Günther and Ursula (@myVideoMedia), Atul (@pixodentist), Jackie (@jackiesjourneys), Tim (@timofnewbury), Beverley (@bevsackville) and Dave (@travelling_dave) who all identified the city correctly as Abu Dhabi.

This part of the city skyline was not there when I visited but has since become an iconic part of the city’s ever-changing profile. It may change again and seen from this same viewpoint may again have an addition to the skyline.
