Last weeks twisted photograph from “Where in the World…” caused some difficulty. A number people used the TV tower to try and identify the city. Auckland, Toronto, Shanghai all have iconic TV towers and they are not the only cities in the world that have them. However I mentioned in the post that the iconic building of this city was hidden and missing from the photograph. There is a TV tower in the photograph so Auckland, Toronto, Shanghai whose TV towers are iconic landmarks would not qualify. Although the city in the photograph has a TV tower it is incidental to the real icon of the city – an opera house. The city in question has another iconic structure too, a very distinctive bridge. Sydney has both an iconic opera house and a bridge as well as a “not so iconic” TV tower.
The answers this week were many and varied. Auckland seemed the most popular with Seattle, Shanghai, Dubai and Toronto following. However, Tim (@timofnewbury) identified the city by the application of a little logic. He narrowed the skyline down to Toronto Seattle or Sydney. As the TV tower is the iconic structure of Toronto Seattle and I had said the iconic building of the city to identify was hidden he correctly identified the city as Sydney. Congratulations Tim and thank you to everyone who took part.
This weeks “planet city” is pictured below. Hopefully it will be much easier this week as the city’s iconic structures are not hidden.
Can you identify the city? You can leave your answer in the comments below or on my Twitter feed (@lethers) with the hashtag #WITW59. If we mutually follow each other on Twitter then you could send me a direct message with your answer, not forgetting the hashtag #WITW59. You can also leave your answer under the post referring to this on the Travel Unpacked Facebook page (please like the page while you are there). Good luck.
